Is Entebbe Craft Market Worth a Visit?
Right across from the busy Victoria Mall in Entebbe, there’s a special place that shows off Uganda’s amazing culture and art — a small but lively craft market full of creativity. With more than 40 shops, this charming market features a fantastic selection of handmade items, giving visitors a great chance to connect with local artists and see their creations up close. – Most shops there also get their products imported from Kampala, and therefor most is not made themselves.
The craft market is a cool spot to check out if you’re looking to take some souvenirs home. There are lots of unique items you can find there. But honestly, every time I go, it feels like a tourist trap. The women in the shops call out to you as you walk by, pretending to be super friendly. At first, it seems nice, but you soon realize that all they really want is to make money. I can’t really blame them. It’s their job.
These craft shops make a lot of money from tourists who don’t realize how much things should really cost. I’ve often found myself paying way too much-sometimes i have been offered something 400% more than what the items are worth! That’s why it’s super important to negotiate. Start by offering a really low price and then keep talking from there. The shops usually have the upper hand, but you can still end up with a fair deal.
It is worth a visit?
For sure, I would definitely say yes! I’ve picked up a bunch of little souvenirs from the craft markets in Entebbe and Kampala, and I just can’t help but keep going back for more. Every time I go, I find something new and special that really grabs my attention. It’s not only about shopping; it’s such a fun experience to spend an hour or two wandering through these colorful markets.
After checking out Victoria Mall, which is right across from the craft market, I really enjoy taking my time to look at all the stalls. The vibe is so lively, filled with the bright colors, sounds, and smells of local art and crafts.
